U.S. salt production increased more than 10% in 1993 compared with that of the previous year. The increase, primarily in rock salt production for highway deicing, was mainly attributed to adverse winter conditions that continued into early 1994. The five leading States in terms of total salt sold or used were Louisiana, 32%; Texas, 21%; New York, 15%; and Kansas, 6%.
