Structural Renovation of Traditional Buildings
The report examines the structural aspects to be considered in renovating traditional buildings of the late 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. It deals with the broad range of housing, commercial and industrial buildings, but it excludes monumental buildings. The approach to the structural inspection and appraisal of old buildings is presented. Detailed sections describe the assessment, repair, and upgrading of structures built of masonry, timber, cast and wrought iron, and mild steel. The design and construction aspects of foundation strengthening and retention of the facades of buildings are also covered.
