Timber Pests and Their Control (Revised)
Timber does not deteriorate through age alone. Wooden archaeological specimens many hundreds of years old in our museums, the longevity of structural timber in mediaeval buildings, and the maintenance of ships such as HMS Victory are evidence of this fact. Deterioration of timber is always caused by some agent or condition, the major cause being biological attack. Many people regard timber as a 'non durable' material because of this special form of deterioration. Timber is so diverse in character and the uses to which it can be put so varied, that it is often taken for granted. The object of the booklet is to provide information on the biological attack of wood.
