Cyclic Behavior of Bridge Pier Walls for Retrofit
An experimental and theoretical study was conducted on pier wall samples representing pre-1971 design specifications. The samples were subjected to a series of cyclic horizontal loads under the effect of constant axial load. The two main objectives of the study were to understand the performance and failure mechanism of pie walls, and to evaluate different retrofit techniques to improve their ductility and strength.
