A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Solar Energy Research Institute's Daylighting Laboratory
The use of daylighting can significantly reduce the energy consumption, cooling load, and peak demand in buildings. However, this reduction can occur only if daylighting is applied efficiently. This requires an understanding of both the fundamentals and the appropriate applications of daylighting. The daylighting laboratory of the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) was formed to study daylighting theory and application as it relates to the particular climates and needs of the United States. The laboratory studies the daylighting resources of the United States and the effective integration of daylighting in buildings. An overview of the activities and facilities of the laboratory is presented. (ERA citation 08:023827)
