Construction Over Abandoned Mine Workings
As prime development land becomes more scarce, there is an increasing need to consider building on ground of inferior or dubious quality. This publication provides a state-of-the-art review of building on such ground in Britain. It describes the types of mining used in the past, the methods of investigating affected areas, and the assessment of the remedial and design measures required for development. Active mining situations and buildings to be constructed in areas to be mined in future are only considered where directly relevant or for illustration.
