In 1982, the National Timber Research Institute initiated an Editing Committee to compile a draft Code of Practice for the Design, Manufacture and Erection of Timber Trusses. The results of the Editing Committee are contained in the report. A second reason for publishing the report now is that recommendations have been made that the National Building Regulation replace the entire section dealing with timber roof trusses with a reference to the Code of Practice for the Design, Manufacture and Erection of Timber Trusses.
