An instrument for detecting delamination was developed in this study to replace the techniques which involve subjective judgment. The basic design of the instrument and the results of preliminary field evaluations were described in Research Report 130-4 entitled 'An Instrument for Detecting Delamination in Concrete Bridge Decks'. The ability of the detector to distinguish delaminated concrete from solid concrete has been verified by specially constructed test slabs (both delaminated and solid) as well as by coring ten different bridges. (Author Modified Abstract)
