Conformance of Some Common Building Products with British Standards
Many purchasers, particularly public bodies, specify British Standard (BS) products in building contracts but seldom check that the products actually conform with the standards. In this investigation a range of common building products was examined: wall ties, precast concrete blocks, timber scaffold boards, admixtures for concrete and water-thinned primers for wood. When non-standard products were available these were also tested. For the timber scaffold boards the British Standards Institution operates a quality assurance Kitemark scheme and the BS boards which were examined were all marked.
