A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Uniaxial compression, double shear and point load tests have been carried out with three rocks and used to estimate the Mohr failure envelopes. The results have been used to predict the hydraulic fracturing pressure for a bore hole in Bohus granite. Experimentally it was found that the real pressure was at least 4 times larger than the predicted value. It is concluded that application of Mohr failure envelope data, which often are derived for homogeneous states of stress, must be used with great care when the loading situation involves non-negligible stress gradients.
