Fire Hardening of Old Residential Buildings in High Risk Urban Communities: Sprinkler System Aspects
Full-scale fire tests show that partial (mini) sprinkler systems in old wooden row houses and multiple dwellings can significantly reduce the number of occupant deaths and injuries at an affordable cost. A pilot project involving 75 row frame multiple dwellings confirms the economic feasibility of fire-hardening with mini-sprinklers, cockloft barriers, and early warning detectors.
