Final Environmental Assessment: Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum Renovation Project Hyde Park, New York
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) proposes to renovate the Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) Presidential Library and Museum located at 4079 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, New York, in order to bring the building up to strict NARA environmental standards. The National Archives is an independent agency of the United States government and is responsible for the preservation and management of historical records of the United States government. The building was originally constructed in 1939, with the north and south wing additions being constructed in 1972. The Preferred Alternative is to renovate the building with significant interior improvements leading to the long-term preservation of collections and the installation of new exhibits, upgrades to the sanitary, stormwater, fire, and electrical systems, repairs and upgrades to pedestrian paths, repairs to the exterior envelope and construction of a new cooling tower. This Environmental Assessment describes the project purpose and need, the alternatives considered, and the environmental consequences of the Preferred Alternative and the No Action Alternative.
