In Situ Characterization of Saturated Sands and Silts for the Prediction of Dynamic Shear Modulus and Shear Wave Velocity
An electrical method of characterizing coarse-grained soils is described. A nondestructive method of determining dynamic properties of coarse-grained soils is developed based on this fundamental characterization of soils. Correlations are established relating k sub 2 max, coefficient required to obtain dynamic shear modulus to the appropriate electrical parameters. This laboratory correlation was verified by field measurements. A comparison is made between predicted and measured shear wave velocities. (Author)
