A Recommended Texas Highway Department Pavement Design System User's Manual
This manual provides instructions to the Texas Highway Department operating personnel for collecting, developing, and processing data for use in the 'THD Flexible Pavement Design System'. Detailed coding instructions are given for each of the three computer programs used in the design system. The first program, 'STIFFNESS COEFFICIENT', uses the measurements obtained with the Dynaflect to calculate deflections. Deflections, together with total thickness of the existing pavement, are used to calculate stiffness coefficients for the subgrade and pavement. The second program, 'PROFILE ANALYSIS', makes the necessary calculations to verify statistically the engineer's selection of subgrade design sections. The third program, 'FPS-7', uses the coefficients calculated previously, performance variables, traffic variables, cost variables, and design variables, etc. to calculate the optimum designs. Examples of the computer program inputs and outputs are also included. (Author)
