Guidelines for Evaluation and Repair of Damaged Steel Bridge Members
Guidelines are established in the report for evaluation and repair of damaged steel bridge members. Included in the guidelines are inspection of damage, assessment of damage, selection of repair method, and repair of damage. Included in methods of repair are flame straightening, welding, hot mechanical straightening, cold mechanical straightening, and bolting. The most frequent accidental damage is caused by overheight vehicle impact. The types of steel bridges most frequently damaged are girder or truss bridges. The guidelines are applicable to less frequent types of damage and to other steel bridge types. The report is primarily a practical users manual for dealing with damaged steel bridge members.
