Concrete-Polymer Materials for Highway Applications
Investigations of polymer-impregnated concrete for highway applications made at Brookhaven National Laboratory during the period July 1970 to December 1971 are reported. Samples of normal weight and structural lightweight concretes containing several high-quality aggregates were impregnated with methyl methacrylate and radiation polymerized in situ. All the materials produced high-strength (15,000 psi) durable composites, and the results indicate that concretes prepared from locally available materials can be used in the preparation of polymer-impregnated concrete. Comparable results have been obtained with thermal-catalytically polymerized specimens. (Modified author abstract)
