The academic building system (ABS) program is being conducted jointly by the University of California and Indiana University under the sponsorship of the Office of Education of HEW, Laboratories of the Ford Foundation, and the states of California and Indiana. The goal is to develop a building system suitable for a range of academic building space, including laboratories, shops, classrooms, and offices. The initial emphasis has been on buildings for science and engineering.
