Beaver Drainage District, Oregon. Proposed Improvements, Flood Protection
The Beaver Drainage District is a leveed area about 1 1/4 miles north of Clatskanie, Oregon, in Columbia County along the left bank of Columbia River. The project includes: Construct a new pumping station of increased capacity to replace an existing pumping station; relocate the discharge lines of a second existing pumping station; construct a new tide box with a positive closure gate-well structure to replace an existing tide box; and raise and reinforce the existing main levee and install toe drains as required. About 25 acres of land required for project right-of-way will be permanently restricted in use as necessary to fully preserve the integrity of the levee. Minor turbidity due to tide box construction may temporarily disrupt aquatic life in the upstream end of John Slough. Grass and sod stripped from the landward levee slope in construction areas will temporarily dislocate minor species of wildlife that inhabit the grass covered slopes.
