Construction Foundation Report for Cuchillo Negro Dam, New Mexico. Volume 2. Appendix B, Appendix C, and Appendix D
Cuchillo Negro Dam was completed in July 1991. The project, which is a dry, flood control only reservoir, consists of a main dam and an auxiliary spillway. The dam consists of a 750-foot-long earth embankment section and a 590-foot-long roller compacted concrete (RCC) section. The crest of the earth embankment section is 21 feet wide, and it. is 25 feet wide for the RCC section. The dam has an overflow spillway and rises 134 feet above the channel bottom. The auxiliary spillway is an RCC lined spillway with a conventional con- crete Ogee. It is 680 feet wide and extends from a point 260 feet from the right abutment of the RCC dam in a southeasterly direction. Numerous unanticipated geologic conditions were encountered during excavation of the foundation trench. This lead to design changes and modifications to the contract.
