Field Measurements of the Sound Insulation of Party Walls in Timber-Framed Dwellings

The results are described of measurements made in timber-framed dwellings as part of a survey of sound insulation in moders constructions. The performance standard incorporated as a deemed-to-satisfy specification in the Building Regulations was attained by 92 per cent of the walls tested. All the party walls which did not attain the standard had design features which clearly distinguished them from the majority of walls in the sample. For the usual design, the results suggest that over 99 per cent of walls should achieve the performance standard. (Copyright (c) British Crown Copright.)
