Statistical Investigation of Pavement Skid Resistance Data
Regression analysis was used, with skid number data (2490 cases) measured on the Southern By-Pass (U.S. Highway 80) in Montgomery, Alabama, from 1969 to 1975, to develop equations that predict skid number and skid number ratio. The independent variables included service time, traffic, elapsed time since last rainfall, rainfall amount, aggregate type, aggregate mixture, calendar month, and air temperature at time of test. Logarithmic transformations were also used, but the regression models developed were not satisfactory for prediction purposes as indicated by the coefficient of multiple determination (r squared) and the standard error of estimate.
