Trip Length Variations within Urban Areas
One of the most important components of modern urban transportation and land use planning is the analysis and projection of travel needs in urban regions. Such analysis and projection involve extensive study of the relationship between the location of various urban activities and the travel demand generated by these activities. In general, the ultimate goal of urban transportation and land use planning effort is the allocation of urban land uses in a manner that reduces their travel and transportation needs, and the distribution of transportation facilities in such a manner that travel demands are most effectively met. The present study investigates one of the relationships mentioned above, and was undertaken in an attempt to contribute to the growing body of travel demand information utilized in urban transportation and land use planning.
