Stress Relaxation in Aeronautical Fasteners
Creep and stress relaxation tests at 1200F were carried out on A-286 alloy material specimens and bolt-and-nut combinations. Details of the testing equipment and procedures are described and several recommendations, in these areas, are made for use in the establishment of a standard stress relaxation test method. Some of the experimental stress relaxation data are compared with calculated values which were developed from the experimental creep data by the application of the strain hardening and time hardening principles. The usefulness of this technique is discussed. (Author)
