A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The report shows the results of frost penetration on roads in the State of Alabama. The results were obtained by placing frost meters in the pavements. The depth of frost penetration was determined by glass vials bursting at -1C, which were placed at a known depth below the surface of the roadway. The frost meters were read for winters of 1967-68, 1968-69, and 1969-70. These winters were not considered as the more severe winters in Alabama. Based on readings made for these winters, frost penetration does not go below the base course materials. (Author)
