National Dam Safety Program. Hawkinsville Dam (Inventory Number NY 895), Black River Basin, Oneida County, New York. Phase I Inspection Report
The reservoir is located in the hamlet of Hawkinsville, Town of Boonville, Oneida County, New York. The dam was originally constructed to provide power for an Excelsior manufacturing plant located just below the left abutment of the dam. This use has been abandoned for several years and the facility now serves only to provide a recreational pool on the Black River. The visual inspection revealed several deficiencies on this structure. No evidence of misalignment or settlement were detected in the field. The following specific items were noted: The earthfilled portion of the dam at the right abutment is heavily overgrown with trees and brush; The crest elevation of the earthfilled portion of the dam is depressed below the elevation of the top of the concrete at the right abutment of the spillway; Minor seepage occurs near the center of the earthfilled portion at the right abutment; and The concrete surfaces at the left abutment of the spillway section are deteriorated.
