Crushed Aggregate-Betonite Mixtures as Backfill Material for the Finnish Repositories of Low- and Intermediate-Level Radioactive Wastes
Backfill materials consisting of three components: crushed rock aggregate, finely ground rock aggregate and bentonite (3 to 2 per cent of weight) were studied. The production and installation procedures of the material were evaluated. Laboratory tests were made to determine the hydraulic conductivity and swelling potential of the materials. Chemical tests were made on the different materials and ground waters. Mineralogical changes of the clay fraction were estimated. (Atomindex citation 16:072466)
