Field Evaluation of Joint Seal Materials
At the time of construction of a PCC pavement in 1969, transverse contraction joints perpendicular to centerline were sealed using liquid seals and preformed compression-type seals. Test sections were established for each material under study to evaluate performance. Reference pins were also installed to measure joint movement. Periodic field surveys were conducted to determine the amount of joint footage that failed. The results were used to evaluate the materials incorporated into the field study program.
