A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A 1:50 scale model of the Akhna Dam spillway was constructed and tested to optimize the hydraulic design. The model included the 'bath-tub' side channel weir, the spillway chute and flip bucket, a 200 m length of the main river valley and the smaller valley into which the spillway discharged. The model was tested over a range of flows up to the maximum 73 m3s-1. The performance of the weir was checked and a calibration curve produced.
