United States citizens have utilized California's Truckee River for irrigation and power generation since the nineteenth century. One of Reclamations first tasks, the Newlands Project, focused on channeling it for incoming settlers. A follow-up accompaniment to the Newlands Project, the Truckee Storage Project was completed in 1939. This projects main features, the Boca Dam and Reservoir, have helped regulate the Truckee Rivers flow and have offered supplemental storage for irrigation in the area.
