The report presents a comprehensive introduction to demographic data from the Census Bureau, or more specifically, data about population and housing. The purpose of this publication is to provide an appropriate and up-to-date starting point for the new or prospective user, and a handy reference for the experienced user. It presents those facts or principles most relevant to understanding the 1970 census and related data from current programs, to being able to find desired data, and to appreciating the definitions and limitations of those data. Fifty reference charts and illustrations are included, along with numerous cross-references to other publications where more detailed information can be obtained. The manual is designed especially for use by instructors participating in the Census Bureau's college curriculum support project.
