Bayou La Batre, Alabama (Maintenance Dredging)
The project proposes to maintain existing channel dimensions of 12 x 100 feet from the 12-foot contour in Mississippi Sound to a point about 2,800 feet south of the Highway 188 bridge, thence a channel 12 x 75 feet to the bridge, an overall distance of about 33,500 feet. The existing project also includes a turning basin, having a depth of 12 feet and covering an area of about 2.6 acres, which is located about 0.6 mile below the bridge. Maintenance dredging is normally required annually. Spoil from the inland portion of the project, is pumped to diked land disposal sites. Spoil from the remainder of the project is disposed of to open-water sites adjacent to the channel. Environmental impacts are discussed.
