Static Constitutive Relations for Concrete
Static constitutive stress-strain relations are developed for concrete at intermediate pressure levels, up to 10-12 ksi mean normal stress. An elastic-plastic model is developed that qualitatively fits the loading features exhibited for a variety of controlled laboratory tests conducted in this program and found in the literature. Laboratory tests were conducted on several batches of concrete with 3/8-inch maximum aggregate. Considerable attention was paid to the casting of the concrete so that batch-to-batch repeatability could be obtained, and to specimen preparation. Some data are presented for aggregate variation from 3/16-inch to 3/4-inch so that scaling to different aggregate could be performed. The laboratory tests presented represent a series of tests where all stresses and strains have been measured, thereby allowing the shear and dilation stress-strain responses to be observed during a variety of load-unload paths.
