Analysis of Working Load Behaviour of Laterally Loaded Socketed Piles
An analysis is made of the working-load behavior of a single laterally loaded pile, the tip of which is socketed into rock under-lying the soil layer, for various combinations of boundary conditions at the head and tip of the pile. It is shown that the displacement, rotation and moment in the pile are largely unaffected by socketing the tip unless the pile is relatively stiff. A method is suggested for evaluating the effectiveness of a given embedded depth of tip in providing fixity against rotation of the tip. (Author)
