The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of location and design characteristics of urban freeways upon persons with middle and upper incomes living along freeway rights of way. The objectives of the study were: (1) to determine the effects of freeway location on land use characteristics of middle and upper income areas, (2) to determine the opinions of residents living near the freeway regarding its location, (3) to examine some of the effects of different freeway designs on residential satisfaction and (4) to examine some of the social impacts of freeway construction on upper and middle income residential areas.
