Study Determination of Strength Equivalencies of Bituminous Mixes
A series of bituminous mixes were made consisting of ten sources of local gravel aggregates in combination with 120-150 penetration asphalt cement, RC-250 or RC-800. The aggregates were used in both their natural gradation and gradations modified to pass North Dakota specifications. Marshall stability, flow, percent air voids, percent voids in mineral aggregates, density, effective asphalt content, optimum asphalt content, angle of internal friction and cohesion were determined. A good quality crushed stone aggregate was used as a control. A new method for preparing and testing cold mixes was developed. (Author)
