An Empirical Formula for Calculating gamma-Ray Dose Attenuation in Concrete Ducts
A survey is presented of the current status of the calculation of gamma-ray dose-rate attenuation in air ducts through concrete. A simple empirical formula is exhibited which shows satisfactory agreement with the results of more complicated computational techniques and with experimental results. This simple formula represents a large saving in computation time -- 2 seconds per case compared to 400 seconds by IBM-1620 computer. Its validity is established for a wide range of duct geometries and for gamma-ray energies up to 3 Mev. (Author)
