Friction Losses in Corrugated Metal Pipe
The purpose of this study was to determine friction factors for 3-, 5-, and 7-ft-diam corrugated metal pipe, as indicated by head-loss measurements for a range of velocities up to approximately 10 fps for 5- and 7-ft-diam pipe and 16 fps for 3-ft-diam pipe. Tests were conducted on new, straight, corrugated pipe of standard manufacture that was assembled in a manner similar to a conventional installation. Water from the forebay pool of Bonneville Dam was supplied to the test section through 6-ft smooth pipe. From the test section it flowed into a metering section where the quantity of flow was measured by means of a parallel system of flat-plate orifices; it was discharged into the Columbia River below Bonneville Dam through gate-valve controls and short outlet pipes.
