Tensile Characteristics of Discontinuous Unidirectional Glass-Epoxy Composites
The objective of this work is to compare the mechanical properties of glass-epoxy composites unidirectionally reinforced with discontinuous fibers with those of similar composites reinforced with continuous fibers. An attempt is also made to explain the failure mechanisms of the system through microstructural observations. The role of the filler, matrix, and interface in the macro behavior of the composite system is also discussed. (Author)
