Measurements of Pavement Performance Using Statistical Sampling Techniques
Two methods are examined which provide objective pavement performance information about the Texas highway system. These methods are sampling surveys and a complete inventory of all pavements. A sampling survey has been conducted in all twenty-five SDHPT districts and results from the survey are discussed. These results include measures of roughness, visual condition, and deflection for four years of collected data. The optimum number of required highways for conducting such a survey are determined. A performance inventory for all pavements in District 21 is discussed. Procedures are developed which can assist in the planning of future statewide performance inventories currently being planned by the SDHPT.
