Work Plan: Fatigue Reliability of Steel Highway Bridges
This study will address some of the issues associated with developing probabilistic reliability models for steel bridge structures under vehicular traffic loadings. Specifically, methods for incorporating inspection data (e.g., the presence and size of cracks) into classical and fracture mechanics-based fatigue models to predict fracture-critical element damage accumulation will be analyzed. Ancillary tasks will include the identification of fatigue-sensitive bridge details, the estimation of site-specific random loading spectra, and the development of models for predicting the life of each detail and, subsequently, the life of the entire bridge system.
