A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
City of Santa Cruz, California
The proposed project involves a grant to the City of Santa Cruz to permit the construction of an approximately 60,000 square foot convention center on a 4.6 acre site located on a promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean within the city of Santa Cruz. The proposed convention center will consist of a large interior space, capable of being subdivided by movable panels, small area meeting rooms, utility and storage spaces and a warming kitchen. Also, the project proposes to construct a major hotel, necessary parking areas, and a New England motif shopping center adjoining the convention center. Adverse environmental effects will be the loss of 37.6 acres of soil classified as having low agricultural capability; Possible adjustments in the character and value of present residential lands adjacent to the proposed project as a result of pressures generated by the presence of a major economic focal point; Generation of substantial vehicular and pedestrian traffic loads which will aggrevate traffic conditions on adjacent streets and access routes.
