An Evaluation of Pavement Serviceability on Utah Highways
The purpose of pursuing the study on a continuing annual basis is to develop significant trends and relationships relative to pavement serviceability under actual traffic loading conditons. The publication presents a rating and evaluation of 120 projects throughout Utah. These data are based upon test results obtained by a new mode of pavement testing. A newly purchased profilograph was introduced into the testing program to determine pavement roughness which is the most essential factor in evaluating pavement performance. Roughness was measured on all projects previously tested with the BPR Roughometer plus 37 newly completed projects. Both flexible and rigid pavements were tested. A Present Serviceability Index (PSI) was computed for each project. Cracking, patching, and rut depths were also calculated into this index wherever their severity was an influencing factor. The indexes and rating for each project appear in data summarization sheets. (Author)
