Synthetic Aggregate Seal Coats
Personal visits, questionnaires and a review of available literature were used to identify current synthetic aggregate seal coat design and construction practice used by the Texas Highway Department. Problems associated with the performance of seal coats involving synthetic aggregates for coverstone are defined. Trial field sections have been constructed. Aggregate gradation, aggregate moisture content, quantity of aggregate, quantity of asphalt, skid numbers, surface texture and environmental data were obtained. Based on a collection of the above information a synthetic aggregate seal coat design method has been suggested and construction guidelines developed.
