Response of Embedded Foundations to Travelling Waves
The motion of a rigid massless square foundation under various types of seismic waves is studied. Surface foundations are investigated using the Boundary Element Method and a comparison is made with other published results. Embedded foundations subjected to vertically travelling shear waves are studied and the results are compared to circular foundations reported by Elsabee and Morray. Finally the case of embedded foundations under a combination of SV and P waves that will produce a free-field motion compatible with the Newmark-Blume-Kapur spectra is investigated.
