Church Based In-Home Care Program for the Elderly
The objectives are: (1) to build an infrastructure within the convention to establish a national church-based in-home care system initiated in four states: Missouri, New York, New Jersey, and Virginia and the District of Columbia; (2) to provide a coordinated system of services to comprehensively meet the needs of at-risk elderly and support their caregivers; (3) to link the elderly with community resources appropriate to meet identified needs; (4) to strengthen existing informal services in participating churches through training, better organization and improved management. These objectives are to be accomplished by volunteers who are members of the various congregations. The national office staff (NBC) provided direction, assistance, support and training to volunteers in the Basic Church Unit at each location. The plan has three phases (1) Planning, (2) Training, (3) Implementation.
