Full Scale Smoke Curtain Tests - 5-10 October 1986
Findings from these full-scale integrated smoke curtain tests show a high potential in the use of smoke curtains for containing and limiting the spread of smoke during and after a shipboard fire. They also showed a marked tendency to inhibit the growth of fire when deployed in key locations by curtailing the air supply to the fire. They were accepted most heartily by the crew of the USS SPRUANCE, DDG 963, as an aid to fire fighting. These tests also showed two areas of improvement needed for the application of the curtains: the method of attachment, and a need for guidelines on when and where to deploy them. Fire hazards; Suppression; Fire fighting; Scaling; Fire spread; IR camera; Smoke.
