The report presents data from two special tabulating operations carried out for the Commission by the U.S. Bureau of the Census, to provide information about (1) the geographic extent of 'poverty areas' in the largest metropolitan areas (those that had a 1960 population of 250,000 or more), and (2) the volume and characteristics of housing in such areas, as indicated by the 1960 Census of Housing.
