Evaluation of a Remedial Repair Technique for Distressed Plain Jointed Concrete Pavement
This research project was necessitated by a distress mechanism that had begun to cause deterioration to a relatively young section of highway in District 2 of the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). A three-year-old section of U.S. Highway 78 in Marshall and DeSoto Counties has begun to display pavement distress that indicated there was an unacceptable level of pavement deterioration. The approximately 24 km (15-mile) section of roadway was exhibiting cracking at sawed transverse joints and mid-slab locations, and there were indications of the existence of voids between the concrete pavement and cement treated base. There was evidence of edge-pumping throughout the project and of pumping through cracks at some joints and mid-slab locations.
