The Bureau of Health Education asked Jennette Simmons, D.Sc., to prepare a background paper on rural health education that might be used by the Bureau in exploring possible directions, alternative courses of action and programmatic choices for future work in this important setting. Although action recommendations in the paper are directed primarily to the Bureau of Health Education, it was felt that many of the recommendations were also applicable to other Federal and/or State agencies in the private as well as public sectors.
