This study was intended to evaluate the void characteristics of concrete in an attempt to identify quantitatively or semiquantitatively different types of voids and to predict their influence on strength and durability. Parameters of the void system were related to the combined effect of the water-cement ratio and air content of the concrete. However, within the framework of this study a satisfactory relationship was not established. Measures of freezing and thawing durability; weight loss, relative dynamic modulus of elasticity and the surface rating were correlated to certain parameters of the void system and satisfactory correlation coefficients were obtained. Also a satisfactory relationship between the air contents of fresh and hardened concretes that were properly measured were established.
